Apple Mac Photoshop

Hi all. I need a little help with something. I want to learn how to remove a background colour from a logo. I have tried selecting the logo itself and copying it onto a new transparent background and to a degree this works but, if the logo is very fine or perhaps a scanned copy etc, then selecting the logo in photoshop is not so easy.
It seems to me that it must be easier to select the background and somehow remove it.

Any thoughts, ideas or tips would be much appreciated.

Try two things:

The background eraser tool. If that doesn't work, try going under the "Select" menu and choosing "Color Range" then clicking on the background color.

One of those two methods should do the trick.
