I’ve broken a few of these rules in the past, but also discovered a few things not mentioned. From my experience the resume is very important. Right out of school I got a lot of interviews because of my resume, even though the lack of experience ultimately showed in my portfolio. So design your resume to be attractive but organized. If you’re a designer of any sort, don’t make it in Word. At the same time, don’t go over the top with graphics.
