40 great PSD templates to base your website design…
This past Monday I posted a link to a tutorial that would help you code your PSD mock-up into a fully functional HTML/CSS template. If you’re looking for a little PSD inspiration before coding, here’s a collection of 40 PSD web templates to get you started.
Tutorial: Converting your PSD to HTML/CSS
This second part of a two-part tutorial at SixRevisions focuses on converting and coding your PSD mock-up into a clean HTML/CSS template.
Free InDesign style sheet template
If you have a long text document to format and aren’t quite familiar with setting up Style Sheets in Adobe InDesign, this free pre-made Style Sheet template is just for you. The template is based on an OpenType mix of two fonts fonts (Meta Serif/Sans Pro), but can easily be changed to another pair of fonts. Besides directly using modifying the styles, exploring the file will give you some great ideas of how to achieve different looks through the use of paragraph and character styles. The download includes the following styles and more:
- Semantically named paragraph and character styles
- 3 subheading levels, with and without automatic numbering
- Bullet and numbered lists in 2 levels
- Paragraph with and without indents
- Drop cap paragraph
- Quote
- Table style
- Text box styles
- Caption
- Text formatting styles
- Footnote layout
The article from InDesigning.net explains how to load and use the styles in your InDesign document, as well as provides a PDF file showing off the styles in a sample document. The document was created in InDesign CS4, and is quite handy because it saves you the time of setting up a style sheet from scratch – allowing you to simply edit an existing one.
Creating letterhead templates in Microsoft Word
If you’ve been in the design business for any amount of time, you’ve no doubt run across a client who asks you to create a letterhead template they can use on their Windows machine in MS Word. Ugh! Fortunately, there is a relatively simple way to get a little control over the placement of graphics using Word’s absolute position option when placing your images. My friends over at CreativeTechs have a step-by-step tutorial to show you how to accomplish this very easy task.

I may have mentioned DesignersToolbox before, but I can’t say enough how handy their resources for designers are. In particular, the free envelope size and die line charts. 12 basic envelope styles, with all the different standard sizes for each style listed out – for a total of well over 100 different size envelopes. Along with each size, a link to the .eps die line you can use for your projects is provided.
